Junior Development Come & Try Day Tooradin

On Sunday the 18 th November the Pakenham Auto Club held its first Junior Come & Try Day since loosing the club grounds in Kooweerup Rd Pakenham during 2005.

The day proved to be a great success with 20 participants on the day, this despite the limited advertising of the event. The juniors ranged in age from 12 to 17 and it was particularly good to see many girls take the opportunity to participate. As at all our come & try days the parents were required to sit through the briefing on safe participation and the procedures employed by the club. Later on the parents were all asked to have a drive through the same course as the Junior’s and many then  stayed on and took part in the motorkhana competition. The club signed up 8 new members as direct result of the day with many others taking all the required paperwork home to fill and return.

The keen interest after such along period of inactivity once again reinforces the knowledge that many youth within our local community are in need of this the most basic form of social motoring, and the experience gained will be invaluable as they progress to Learner permit driving on public roads.

On behalf of all at the Pakenham Auto Club we would like to thank you for participating and also thank the committee of management of the Rutter Reserve for their offer for us to use the great facilities at Tooradin

The next come and try day will be listed in the calendar on the website as soon as we can establish the use of some grounds.

Brian Winsall

The sad news has arrived from Western Australia that Former P.A.C. member, Brian Winsall passed away on 18th April.

In the late 70’s and 80’s Brian was one of the many members who competed in circuit racing. His sojourn in the sport began with a Mk 1 Cortina Sports Sedan followed by an Escort in the same category, he then moved on to a Gemini Production Tourer. It was in the Gemini Brian competed in a couple of Bathurst endurance races. Brian’s racing career came to an end in the mid eighties when he and his family moved to W.A.

The Pakenham Auto Club extend our condolences to Sue, Rob, Andrew and their families. Brian will be warmly remembered by all those in the club who were fortunate enough to know him.
